Ear piercing is a very common practice, with people choosing to do so for a variety of reasons, ranging from fashion and personal expression/style to tradition.
Earlobes are one of the least painful parts of the ear to pierce because they have fewer nerve endings in them. The pain is typically described as fleeting, lasting around a second.
It is important to make sure you visit a clinic that is clean and hygienic, experienced and professional. Here at Kents Pharmacy, we use the Inverness Piercing System, one of the safest and most technologically advanced systems available.
It safely and quickly pierces ears in three easy steps, using a hand-pressured instrument that pierces ears gently with sterile, pre-sealed and hypoallergenic earrings.
Inverness is the only system that comes with features, such as:
- An exclusive safety back that shields the sharp piercing tip and stops the earring back from squeezing, allowing for space and airflow to promote healing
- Sterile earring capsules, which prevent the Safety Back and piercing earring from being contaminated prior to piercing
An Aftercare Solution is also included, a specially designed formula that soothes and cleanses newly pierced ears without any chapping or drying that can manifest if rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide are used.
Most people who have their ears pierced using the Inverness System say they feel no discomfort at all. The hand-pressured instrument is smooth and quiet, unlike spring-loaded piercing guns that shoot an earring through the ear tissue.
The piercing earrings themselves have been designed with ultra-thin piercing posts and tips to help them glide through the lobe as easily as possible.
The Inverness Ear Piercing System is used in more than 40 countries around the world. It is also safe to use to pierce babies’ ears, although it is advised to wait until after the first DPT vaccination, typically administered at eight weeks.
The system should not be used for piercing any other body parts. It is only intended to pierce the earlobe and outer cartilage of the ear.
The average healing time for an earlobe piercing is six weeks. For a cartilage piercing, it is 12 weeks. It is advisable to leave the piercing earrings in for the entire healing period, while following aftercare instructions. If you remove the earrings during the healing period, the holes may close up and you may find it hard to reinsert the earrings.
